Santa Ana River Project (SARP) Prado Dam

Prado Dam is an existing facility constructed by the Corps or Engineers in 1941. The plan of improvement for Prado Dam includes:

• Raising the existing embankment 28.4 feet to an elevation of 594.4 feet - Completed.
  
  
• Raising the spillway crest from elevation of 543 ft. to 563 ft.
  
  
• Construct a new outlet works from 9,000 cfs to 30,000 cfs maximum outlet capacity - Completed.
  
  
• Constructing new levees and dikes. Acquisition of additional acreage behind the Dam is required to enlarge the existing reservoir.

Prado Dam Project Features

Construction of the new intake structure

• Total estimated cost: $420 million; construction of modifications to dam embankment and outlet works was completed December 2008.
  
• Construction cost $214 million (Corps cost).
  
• Property acquisition and utility relocations cost $206 million (County cost).
  
• Raise dam elevation from 566 feet to 594.4 feet (increase of 28.4 feet).
  
• Increase reservoir area from 6,695 acres to 10,256 acres.
  
• Impoundment increase from 217,000 acre-feet to 362,000 acre-feet.

Raising of the existing embankment

• Construct dikes/slope protections.
  
• Relocate the outlet works and increase capacity of outlet gates from 9,200 cfs to 30,000 cfs.
  
• Acquire over 1,600 acres of property rights for reservoir expansion.
  
• Relocate or protect 30 various utility lines.
  
• Raise State Highway Route 71 / Construct State Route 71 Dike - Completed.
