OC Flood Obtaining the FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM)
Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) a.k.a. Flood Maps can be viewed through the Federal
Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA)
Map Service Center. If you have the map panel number, the map selection
process will be quicker. See Reading the FIRM
for step-by-step instructions. The Flood Maps for your community should be available
for review only at your local Community Map Repository site, typically this is your
local planning, zoning, or engineering office; copies are not produced nor distributed.
If you would like copies of Flood Maps or to print a FIRMette, they may be obtained
through FEMA's Map Service Center. A FIRMette allows you to print a portion of the
FIRM by enlarging the map to your specific property location. The FIRMette will
also include pertinent information; community number, map/panel number, date of
revision, and flood zone area if applicable.
If you want full size maps (36” x 24”), you need to order through the
Map Service Center. Because the Map Service Center maintains thousands of Flood
Maps, you will need to provide specific information about the map(s) you want to
order such as the name of the community and the county it lies in, or the six-digit
community number.
