Project Information

Improvements to the 0.5 mile reach of Talbert Channel (Facility No. D02) from Adams Avenue to Yorktown Avenue to convey the 100-yr storm flows was completed in 1994. The project constructed vertical steel sheet piles along both sides of the channel. A cathodic protection (CP) system was also designed but not implemented due to the failures that have been observed with the previously installed CP system downstream of this reach of Talbert Channel. An investigation on the CP system failures concluded that the existing CP system was overdesigned. The proposed CP system is an all galvanic system similar to what will be installed on Huntington Beach Channel (Facility No. D01) from Magnolia Street to Indianapolis Avenue in August 2005 (see Project Description for the Huntington Beach Channel Cathodic Protection System Project for more details).
