NFC Projects in Design - Huntington Beach Channel and
Talbert Channel Coating Repair
Huntington Beach Channel and Talbert Channel Coating Repair
OCFCD Facility No. D01/D02
D01 at D02 confluence to Magnolia St., Brookhurst St. to Adams Ave.
Located in Huntington Beach
Supervisorial District 2
Project Information
A cathodic protection (CP) system along Huntington Beach (D01) and Talbert (D02)
Channel exists between Brookhurst Street to Indianapolis Avenue. The channels are
predominantly rectangular soft-bottom. Steel sheet piles line both sides of the
channel banks except along the southwest bank of D01 from the confluence with D02
to approximately 1,200 feet upstream of Magnolia Street. Over the years the sheet
piles began to exhibit coating failure and corrosion primarily within the “splash
zone”. This is the area on the sheet pile surface most susceptible to intermittent
wetting and drying due tidal influence.
The project proposes to mitigate and repair the coating failure. Part of the remediation
effort will include providing electrical continuity between sheet piles and implementing
a maintenance program that will address touch-up repairs to areas where coatings
are visibly failing.
